The taint of us…

Originally, the engineering faction of the MNKD collective argued for the first enclaves of children to be set up in naturally occurring locations friendly towards shelter. They postulated that the taint of man highly jeopardized their survivability. Any indirect influence on the children from human artifacts too soon would disrupt the natural learning process of their internal silicon based minds.

But, Dr. Ahmet rallied the psychological team of experts to suggest otherwise.

"If they're truly to be our spawn. I want them to find our photo albums easliy. I understand the risks of having them grow up amongst so much of what they are not, that this may cause some developmental issues. On the other hand, let's dare the odds and roll the dice shall we. Because empathy for their creators is what we truly want isn't it?"

Beaches today…

Due to the decreased distance between the planet and the moon, altered tidal behavior has reshaped coastlines. Former beaches where man once spent hours of leisure have now become underwater archeological fodder.

Due to the high silicate volume of sand and its reflective qualities, children seeking a much more rapid recharge reside on shores during the day. Air salinity prevents many from making this a frequent habit though mainly due to the possibility of incurable corrosion that cannot simply be polished away.

Also, a small amount of children have been swept away by surprise super tides caused by the planet's tectonic activity when recharging too close to water's edge.

Words that stay

In today's rubble filled environment, ancient human scrawlings of frustration and anger still exist. Prevalent in areas of milder climate where preservation has been better, the doomed resignation of the past can be gauged from what can be deciphered.

Great effort has been made to record most of this without tampering. As long as observations are made from within the green zone, development of the children should continue as planned.

But, concerns have arisen though that when, not if, the children do develop the ability to conceptualize and decipher, will these candid expressions of mankind's extraordinary duress sabotage their progress introducing the next great epoch.

Anomaly

In section 6G of quad eight (latitude: 25.257737, longitude: 121.477975), this disturbing site was found.

As if man was reborn into a suit of armor, this child has taken on the undeniable posture of a human despite the demise of the species ages ago. It is not known where the source of any of this physical behavior/preference is being referenced from. Further investigation is difficult for fear of contamination.

So far though, there are no other recent anomalies. The Fringe continue to be monitored much more closely as usual for any increase in number. No conclusions will be made at this moment until called for.

Unplay

The minor unions that have been observed have no thorough explanation thus far. Pairings, tho brief, are not formed for mutual benefit of any sort. The other guess, though highly improbable and unreasonable for this stage of development, was for the purposes of play.

After the multitude of centuries observing the children, it is generally accepted that any sort of social development is painstakingly slow. For anything even remotely related to play, estimates are it would take at least another 400 years at current pace for such cerebal capacity to develop.

Unless, something has affected the overall equilibrium, no surprises especially leaps are expected in behavioral development.

Darkchild

It is during the hours of daylight, that the robotic children sleep. With the increasing intensity of dawn's luminance, they slowly freeze in tandem. Until the darkness of evening sets again, everywhere is like a museum of frozen men smelt from alloy. Valuable natural radiation penetrates microscopic pores replenishing discharged cells.

There is no hiding from the sun even with cover. Precision rhythmic censors automatically slow computated mechanical metabolisms to a near halt. Inadequate exposure to the sun will result in near-complete depletion resulting in an immediate sleep mode. If reserve power is not adequate enough during the next cycle to secure natural light, complete cessation of all functions will ensue without recovery.

It is not known why, but an average of 8% of any localized population of children will seek cover from daylight despite potential permanent failure. This group has been termed temporarily as the "Fringe."

Belligerence

Belligerent behavior between children is not uncommon. When two pass one another, and an area of .37 meters relative to each is pierced, only two results usually occur.

1. A short lived physical confrontation in which a winner is determined by a precise number of direct strikes to the torso or head. Damage is usually minimal due to the fact that battles are not won based on force but on accuracy.

2. A cursory examination of each other's hands ensuing in a brief mutual polishing of fingers. It is believed that during scanning, each is able to determine information such as where the other has ventured. Further reasoning is unclear yet much more is suspected to pass information wise when polishing occurs.

Water…

Prolonged immersion in water, of acceptable ph levels no lower than 6.4, poses no apparent threat to the children's metallic outer shells. Seemingly, internal mechanics are also sturdy enough to enjoy periods of hydro related activity.

Although, extreme levels of acidity or alkalinity will cause corrosion. These situations are commonplace amongst industrial zones once habited by men of manufacturing trades. When accidental exposure does occur, children of the same cloister will immediately be alerted with the location of the contaminated victim. As a side note, all children are mute. Any sort of communication is conveyed via touch or rudimentary sign language.

It is not atypical to witness a victim being rapidly cleansed by several others if damage is light to medium. More severe cases call for what may seem analogous to a vigil. Until corrosion has caused permanent cessation, members of the flock will accompany the victim til the end.
