The children are powered by solar radiation. Algae rich water, found in abundance, provides the mechanical lubrication necessary to keep high density polymer joints from seizing. With any sort of bedding being unneccessary, robotic children are usually found frozen outdoors in whatever activity they were involved with during the night.
